Home Missions – September
WFMC’s featured Home Missions ministry for September is:
A personal testimony from one of WFMC’s laiasons:
“One year ago, I was invited to volunteer with Friendship International. This group of dedicated women help those who are new to the United States assimilate to life in a culture much different from their own. This was a ministry with which I was not familiar. After a meeting with other volunteers, I was enthusiastic to see what this group was doing.
Friendship International (FI) meets each Friday morning, starting September 13th. Women from different countries and volunteers from area churches meet at Ashland Avenue Baptist Church in Lexington,. Many of the volunteers attend WFMC and have served for decades. The morning begins at 9:30am with fellowship and a program. Then women break up into specialized classes – to learn new skills and interact with Christian women.
Over 200 international women attend sessions like Learning English and Spanish, Painting, Living in Lexington, Line Dancing, and Yarn Arts, among others. Most classes are located at the church, but some women are able to attend online. Excellent teachers (volunteers) lead the small groups in conversation and instruct the internationals in various arts. Friendships are easily formed –Friendship International!
If this sounds like an endeavor you would like to join, the website friendshiplex.com provides more information and an invitation to volunteer. Volunteers will initially meet on Friday, September 6th. If you have questions, the not-for-profit group can be reached at friendshiplex@gmail.com. There are many wonderful causes with which you can share your talents and energy. Friendship International is a loving ministry to local international women. Being a part of this organization will enrich your life and will be a service to our Lord.
