Adults

WFMC strives to be a vibrant, inter-generational church family.  Most ministries and opportunities involve and include persons of all generations, intending to learn from one another’s wisdom and experience…sharpening one another in the Lord.  With that as an over-arching goal, below you’ll find a general overview of our most common adult-oriented ministries.

Adult Bible Fellowships

ABF’s.  What Are They?

ABF stands for a group of Adults, gathering to study the Bible, and working toward developing Fellowship in community. The Adult Bible Fellowship offerings are long-term, ongoing classes, designed to provide a place for learning, discussion, and relationship and community building. If you are looking for a place where you can know and be known by others, find friends, learn and grow, make connections and engage in a deeper level to the church family, connect yourself to an ABF.

Electives are occasional offerings that help supplement our adult Christian education experience. Electives are short-term classes (up to one year) that cover specific material. They are not designed to provide the pastoral care and social elements that ABFs do. Often, people choose to be permanently connected to ABFs, while occasionally taking advantage of electives.

Men’s Ministries

The Men’s Ministry of Wilmore Free Methodist Church seeks to help men connect to one another and to encourage their connection with God and their families.  Some of our many activities include:

Men’s Prayer Meeting  Tuesday mornings, from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m., meeting in room A200, Sanctuary Building.  Come and pray for yourself, your family, your church and community.

Men’s Breakfast  Typically the 3rd Saturday of the month—check the worship folder for details and announcements.  A great time of fellowship and prayer.

Men’s Fall Retreat  A rare opportunity to get away from the hectic pace of life.  This is an overnight retreat at a local camp that allows the men of the church a special time to learn and grow together.

Small Groups  A variety of men’s small groups exist; some for accountability purposes, some for encouragement, some for Bible study, some for fellowship—many for a combination of these.  Contact the church office for information, or pick up a “Small Group” brochure at the Welcome Center.

Special Events  Occasional events include couple’s dinners, ball games, varieties of indoor and outdoor activities, annual wild game dinner, etc.  Watch the worship folder for details.

Women’s Ministries

Wilmore Women’s Ministries seeks to provide a variety of ways for the women of our church and community to know God and one another.   Invite a friend and take part in these important ministries:

Weekly Activities

Women’s Prayer Group  Every Tuesday from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m., gather with a small group of women to pray for the needs of the congregation.

Friendship International   Friendship International is a gift of Christian love from American women to International women and children living in the Lexington area.  The purpose of Friendship International is to make the adjustment to the American way of life easier, to provide activities of interest and to facilitate building cross-cultural friendships. When public schools are in session, on Fridays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. over 100 women and children meet at Ashland Avenue Baptist Church for this inter-denominational ministry.  Many also participate in Zoom classes Monday-Thursday.  Most of the international women who come are not Christians, but they are all open to having an American friend.   For more information, visit our website:  www.friendshiplex.weebly.com

Women’s Bible Studies  There are several women’s studies going on at any given time and season.  Check the worship folder or contact the church office for a listing current studies.

Monthly/Bi-Monthly Activities

Common Threads  Common Threads, the prayer shawl ministry team, meets each Thursday (during the public school year) from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., in room C203. Come and join the team – bring your knitting / crocheting tools and help make prayer shawls for the church family to give to those who are suffering or grieving, as a way to remind others that people are praying for them in their time of need.  Still learning, or would like to learn to sew? No problem! You’re welcome!

Annual Activities

Fall Ladies Retreat  Friday night through Saturday afternoon – a great time to get away and spend time with the Lord and to get to know other women in the church.

Missions Conference Activity  Bring your Mug—we provide the muffin and drinks.  Come and get to know one of our missionaries in a personal way on Saturday morning of the Mission Conference.

Winter Progressive Dinner  Just when we need a break from the winter doldrums—food, fun and fellowship hosted by women of the church.

Ladies Spring Tea  An opportunity for ladies of all ages to come together and invite a friend for a relaxing evening focusing on the Lord and His blessings.

Marriage Ministry

The Marriage Ministry Team has created a mission statement that will give focus, purpose, and direction in personal ministering, group activities, seminars, workshops, Sunday School adult electives, and retreats for the coming year and beyond.

“A marriage ministry team that seeks to equip our church family and community in building Christ-centered marriages.”

Marriage ministry at WFMC includes, but is not limited to: married couples, married couple with children, and empty-nesters.
