Womens’ Fall Bible Study, 2017: The Epic of Eden, Isaiah
If you are interested in joining a group of warm, supportive women of all ages in an in-depth study of scripture, this is for you!
We will meet 10:00-11:30 a.m., on Mondays, September 11-November 6, to study the book of Isaiah, using Dr. Sandra Richter’s video series.
Often named “the fifth gospel,” the book of the prophet Isaiah has more to say about Israel’s coming Messiah than any other Old Testament book. Brilliant, courageous, uncompromising, this prophet declared that “the year of the LORD” had come and God’s people needed to either step up or stand down. Indeed, when Isaiah spoke, kings trembled.
But too often, when Isaiah speaks today, God’s people have trouble hearing. Why? We often miss the larger context. InThe Epic of Eden: Isaiah, Dr. Richter will take us back to the 8thcentury BC, explaining Israel’s religion and economy, and exploring the definition and role of the prophets, and helping us to apply the message of this great champion of the faith to our lives today.
A study guide (optional) will be available at the first meeting for $20. After viewing the video each week, Yvonne Moulton will lead our group in discussion and prayer.
Meeting place: the home of Arv & Judy Metcalf, 20 Veterans Drive
