Advent Devotional: Joy in God’s Love and Light

Stand up and praise the Lord your God, Who is from everlasting to everlasting. Blessed be Your glorious name, and may it be exalted above all blessing and praise. You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship You” (Nehemiah 9:5-6).

The hand of God has made for us all that we see with just a word of His mouth. Scripture says that in just seven days He created all that there is. It is our gift to live in and is our framework of life. It broke God’s heart when man rebelled against Him. This act brought sin into the world, and through sin, death.

But God’s love would not let it stop there. He expressed His love by creating a way for fallen man when He sent His Son, the agent of creation (John 1:1-4), Who came into the world to create a way back to our Heavenly Father.

This greatest gift of joy, the Light shining forth from our Father to guide us home, is like the light from a lighthouse guiding a ship past the rocks back to safe harbor. We not only have followed that Light, we shine our light as we “reflect” God’s light to those in danger in this world today. May we shine, lighting the way for others to find the true joy that each of us has found.

At this Christmas season, may your joy be complete as you walk with Christ, as you also give your love away.
