Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen (Ephesians 3:20-21).
Christmas has always been my favorite holiday. I love the decorating, setting up the manger scene, parties, family, wrapping presents, concerts, and the hymns in church. One of the best parts of Christmas for me is finding that special gift for someone in my family and watching their face lighting up with joy.
But what Christmas really is: it is a gift to mankind from the one holy and loving God that lasts forever! Jesus was and is our gift. The joyful gift of Him as our Savior, Heavenly Father, Protector, Counselor and Friend. The real gift of Christmas is a life with Christ here and now and for eternity. Knowing Christ is joy and is available to everyone.
I think also of the many other gifts God has given me on earth: two daughters to raise, great loving parents, artistic talent and artistic work to help pay the bills, forgiveness for when I have sinned, companionship, and miracles, of which there have been several.
I wonder if God enjoys seeing our surprise when He gives us a gift. And isn’t it like God that on His beloved Son’s birthday, He gave the whole world the everlasting gift of eternal life.
